Memorial Hospital and Chester Clinic staff spent some time at the Chester Public Library on June 12 sharing some sun safety information with the kids and Patient Portal information with the adults. The library hosts Wednesday programs during the summer for kids, which are full of a variety of entertainers. This week Sammy J Balloon Creations was there to perform magic and create balloon creatures for the audience. Memorial joined in on the fun, providing some activities for the families following Sammy's program, while the children waited their turn to have him make a special balloon animal just for them.
Children learned how to stay safe in the sun by applying sunscreen, seeking shade, and wearing hats, appropriate clothing and sunglasses. They then received their own pair of sunglasses to practice what they had learned and parents were given sunscreen to help protect them from the sun's UV rays. Each child was invited to participate in a group project that required them to trace their hand and cut it out to help make a large sun constructed of their little fingers.
Memorial enjoys providing educational events like this for the community. Teaching the kids how to remain safe and healthy is a great way to promote healthier habits in their future. Thank you to the parents, grandparents, and care givers who brought the children to participate in the library's free event.
